those cleaners you can buy in shoe shops are rubbish if anybody has any tips on how to clean themi would be very grateful, thanx

Saddle soap - that's the best stuff ever for leather.

What have you been steppin' in ?? If you are refering to appearance I just use a little to some mink oil on my leathers to make them soft and water proof and blend the appearance.
It will darken them some as you apply and work into the surface.
Some of the finer leather boot sales shops and or stores sell this stuff. I've even used "solid" Crisco for a quicky if I had none available.
You decide, their your boots.

Are you boots a leather or a suede? I think the ones from shoe-shops are pretty good.
