Pandora conjurs up the opening of Pandora's box and all the evil in the world coming out of it. Not a good name to stick a child with.

My husband & I adopted twins 6 years ago. The children were born to birth parents who aknowledged they were indeed satanists. They named the babies Pandora and Damien Kane. Pandora for the Greek Mythology story of the box of evils and Damien Kane after The Omen character and also Cain, the 1st murderer.
My husband and I promptly changed the twin's names when we formally adopted them. We are a Christian family and life is hard enough without having names that are cringe-worthy.
We kept the names phoenetically similar so the babies wouldn't have a hard time adjusting.
Pandora turned into Laura.
Damien turned into Cameron.
And a happy family was created.
Please think carefully about your little one's name choice. Listen to the other Answerers on this page. There are so many lovely names to choose from that don't immediately bring to mind evil and chaos.

I would normally say anything is a good name if you like it regardless of the meaning but someone else made a really good point about jokes about Pandora's box and so on so she could be subjected to quite a lot of teasing esp later in life. Small kids wont know about it but as they get older its quite common knowledge. If you really like the sound of Pandora, can you change it a little to make it another name? Like Pandella or something? I know that's a crap example but you get my drift ;)

Well here's one thing usually when people name their kids they name them just a cute name or a family name or by the definition of that name. And mind you Pandora is defined as : Greek Mythology. The first woman, bestowed upon humankind as a punishment for Prometheus's theft of fire. Entrusted with a box containing all the ills that could plague people, she opened it out of curiosity and thereby released all the evils of human life. (definitely not a name to give to your daughther unless you didn't want a daughter to begin with)
The satellite of Saturn that is fourth in distance from the planet. (if you like saturn go ahead)

Pandora is the person in mythology who released all the evil into the world...so now YOU decide whether or not it's a good name.

I like Pandora. I know of a couple of Pandoras. One of them has the nickname of Pandy. As far as I know, no one at their school teases them about their name either.
