I tend to have dry fingertips and cuticles, and dirt gets embedded, so no amount of washing helps. I've heard of soaking fingers in oil helping... is that so? Any other 'home' remedies? I have lots of hand creams but I'm not a fan of them, they don't help,

They're probably dry from over-washing. Ease up, and yes, olive oil will help. So will aloe-vera juice.

Rub in some Solar oil (from CND) every day. It's not real expensive, doesn't smell bad, and works.
