I'm glad I'm not the only person who has thought this! It also bothers me that they never wear hair nets---oh no, your hair couldnt' possibly contaminate the crime scene.

Anyway, I think the lighting is to set the mood of the show and make it mysterious and brooding...but still, it's a bit silly.

On a related note, I caught a "blooper" on CSI NY on the Wednesday, November 22 episode. When examining a crime scene, Mac had gloves on. Then it shows him shine a flashlight, and he has bare hands. Then it cuts back to another shot with the gloves on. I was proud of myself for catching that; I'm usually not so observant.

I've wondered that myself. And those teeny flashlights have to be held a certain way, with the thumb on the end, have you noticed that?

it is because with just the flashlights they could focus on finding just evidence... with the overhead lights it would pick up too much and they might overlook some very important information.

I can see using a flashlight outside....in the dark....but those itty bitty flashlights?
for cryin out loud....turn the lights on inside!!!

Because they want the crime scene to be as it is, no lights is going to be turned on, no curtains are going to be open things like that.

to not disturb any fingerprints and DNA that might be there.

In case they are booby trapped and might explode in their faces

to see what the killer saw

to see what the killer wants them to see

to look cool on tv ;)
