Silly question, but I'll offer an opinion.
First of all Chicken, in general, has a bland taste, as might other meats, hence the notion that other meats taste like chicken.
Snake,,, does not taste like chicken
Frog,,, does not taste like chicken
Gator,,, does not taste like chicken
Soy based chicken croquets in a hospital that doesn't serve meat, do not taste like chicken.
In fact some very popular franchise chains, using an old man as their logo, do not serve chicken that tastes like chicken.
To more accurately answer the Q however, the "Bird" followed so many other creatures, so long after, all the other "tasties" first existed,,, smiles.
I also offer this however, meaning no offense. I bet I can take a bar coaster, coat it in batter, fry it in chicken fat, serve it on a bun with condiments, and create the illusion that it tastes like chicken.

Which came first? A small 2 inches flesh , called the tongue , came first and the human being`s trouble started thereafter.
The moment the prehistoric man knew the demands of the tongue , he started to taste everything that he was able to catch! Chicken was an easy prey for him.Even if the dinasoars had not died by themselves the humans would have made a Dynaburger and finished them off.
The unsatisfyable demand for the chicken , in the meantime, made the human to disciver a mutation chicken called Broiler chicken, that which cannot lay eggs but will only give the legs and the breast.
Wait. We have not the end yet.The demand for chicken legs is increasing so much that labs are overworking to design and grow chicken with 4 to 6 legs.

Egg. The DNA replaced contained in the egg and something else finally(evolution) will develop into fowl. in case you assert fowl or fowl egg then the answer will be fowl - coz purely chickens might want to provide fowl eggs.

My question is, did taste exist before the first meal, or evolve slowly to ensure good nutrition for hard work?
