Question number 1: How and where can I obtain a new copy of my little one's birth certificate, and does it cost anything?

Question number 2: How do I get a name put on there, I wasn't married when I had my son, so I didn't put his father's name on it because I didn't know if we would stay together (not sure why I thought that) but now we are married and I want to add his name to the birth certificate how do I go about doing that.

Go to your local health department if your son was born in the same state as you live now. They will be able to help you get another copy. It usually costs about 10.00 for another copy. If he was born in another state than your have to contact Vital Records for that state and they will tell you what all you need to provide (info wise) to get a copy of his birth certificate. I did that and it cost me like 26.00 for the certified copy.

On the second question it is a little more tricky than the first. You can go to your local courthouse and tell them you would like to have the father of your child's name put on the certificate, but in some states they require you to have DNA testing done before they will change anything on his birth records. That will cost you about 250.00 for the DNA test and 50.00 to change the records.

I would check on getting the name put on the certificate before trying to get another copy, because when his name is added you will automatically get a copy of the new record. Hope this helps.

You will have to contact the burerau of vital statistics in the town/city the child was born. Most charge a fee for copies of birth certificates, I don't know how much your's will cost because different localities charge different fees. As for adding your husband to the birth certificate, I beleive that has to be done in court, I'm not sure.

You can requst copy of the birth certificate at CurrencyExchange, I think it's about $10. I'm not sure about Q 2, find phone nr of your local county healt departament, they shoud tell you all the steps how to do it (the father has to sign some forms - that should have been done already when your son was born, if you don't have it, maybe paternity test will be needed).Good luck to you.

The Dept. of Vital Statistics in city they were born in. Usually a nominal fee for a copy. As far as adding the father's name, they should be able to tell you how to do that. Think it would be a court matter but nothing expensive.

Your county clerks office. It will cost a few bucks but not much. To get a name added, you have to go to court. Try a Document Service Agency for like divorce and so on..they do all the paperwork and go to court for you if need be.
Its really simple.

You should of put what state and city you lived in for more specific details.

You can get a copy at your local vital records.

Your husband can sign a consent of paternity and have that added, ask at the vital records office.

You can order it off line and pay a fee. You can also go to the city that he/she was born in and go to the magistrate office and request one. you can get his name changed there. You might have to go through the court system but then again I might be wrong. Good Luck.
