I'd heard people tend to grow apart if something significant changes in either person's life. I thought this would never happen to me about my best friend, of about 7 years, when she moved off 2 uni, and i stayed in our home town to study here. We had agreed to stay in touch, and she was planning to visit every few weeks, so we'd still be really good friends. Well the last time i heard from her was 3 and a half months ago, not a word since then, so i guess you're right in that friends grow apart. It was disappointing to realise that the one person i thought would be my best friend for years to come has grown out of me, but i suppose that's life. At least i still have a loving family, who i know i will never grow apart from. You're lucky to have that one person in your life who has stuck by you, they must be a true friend.

Same here! And now the funniest part is, I have grown so much over the past few years that now, I have nothing in common with her. We still talk, but probably only because we've been b/f's since 5th grade (14 or 15 years)!

It happens all the time. Many things can come in between friends, and the ones that stick with you are your true friends.

It's sad when that happens, but I think that people are only in your life for a reason and a season. After that, someone else comes in to take their place. And so, the entire process begins again.

I've gone through a lot of changes in my life, moved around, and whatnot, and though I've made friends everywhere I've been, most of them fade into the distance corners of my memory. Oh, god, I feel a Streisand song coming on.

I had some friends for many years but we did grow apart big time...I do not regret our friendship but I am far better without them.

Some of them come and go but I have always stayed in touch with most of my true old friends that have grown up with.I will probably still know them when I'm 90 and sitting on my porch rocking, I hope so anyway!!

Sadly, yes. I recently realized how much a friend and I had grown apart. We have very little in common anymore. I'm happily married and have children, and though I still love going out with my friends, it's no longer my top priority. She has a hard time understanding that!

Yeah, it happens in life, but that's the way it's made. Some friends are here for the time that we need them, which can be months, years, or a lifetime :)

I clean house every so many years if they start to bore me. As we grow our interest change which makes us sometimes outgrow our friends. Its not uncommon at all.
