What is it about some people that make them want to do the right thing and work for everything they have..making a contribution to society? Some people in the U.S. (including friends and family members) seem to think that it is okay to sit on your keister and bum or draw a check from the goverment when there is obviously nothing wrong with them. Why is it that some people tend to work and others are lazy and worthless....

I don't know. Some people are just sorry. In my family there are some who are admirable, and then, there are some that are truly worthless and undesirable. The sad part is that most of the real sorry ones have sorry children. I don't think its in the genes, but more in the up-bringing.

Some people want to work as little as possible while stile accruing the largest possible payoff.

These ppl economists call "rational."

Anyways, I don't think being hardworking is necessarily, itself ,a virtue. It matters what's motivating the hard work. (See: biglawyers; determined meticulous al qaeda terrorists; etc).

I don't know what makes some people that way, but I do know that when people get something for nothing, that is exactly what they get, "NOTHING."
