Hi there,
I researched the tarantula on the web that found that a tarantula will hibernate in mid winter burrowing into it's hollow in the ground. It will not eat during that time and come mid May will emerge from the burrow. It is important that the tarantula has water nearby as it does drink from time to time even when hibernating. When they come out of the burrow in May, they will resume eating and drinking.
If you have a pet tarantula then it is suggested you provide a dark spot, i.e. a garage, where it will hibernate quite happily.
Hope this helps answer your question.

Yes, Lycosa tarantula, which is commonly called a tarantula hybernate in burrows during the winter months. There are many species which may be considered a 'tarantula' however. I imagine ones that live in habitats that get cold during the winter would hibernate, while ones that live in more tropical areas probably would not. When arthropods are cold they typically slow down as well due to decrease in general metabolism.

Why is this in the reptiles section? Tarantulas are spiders.
