I heard putting hot water on it is not a good idea. I warmed it up and tried to gently scrape it off. Any ideas?

STEP 1: Turn on the car. Put the defroster on the hottest setting and turn on the air conditioner (many modern cars automatically engage the air conditioner when you turn on the defroster). STEP 2: Set the defroster fan to low. STEP 3: Brush snow off the windshield. STEP 4: Spray de-icing solution on the windshield. (You can make your own de-icing solution--a mixture of half water and half vinegar.) STEP 5: Scrape

I assume that you are talking about ice on the glass. I have been putting warm water on my windshield for many years. Not really hot, since I was told that the rapid temperature change could crack. I have never had a problem and will continue to do it. The neatest thing about it is that is warms the glass enough that the residual water does not freeze back up. I splash it all over, turn on the wipers, splash more on as the wipers are going and I'm done, Takes about 16 ounces of water and 90 seconds of my time. It doesn't work so well with snow though.

I've heard stuff like you're not allowed to leave your car on and unattended. I don't know, but keep that in mind -- I don't want to get you in trouble.

I like to turn my car on with the heat vent going on the front windshield, and the defrost for the back. I let it go for at least 5 good minutes.

Then come out and go to work with a good ice scraper. I bought a 2-in-1 ice scraper and brush for like $10 or 15. The brush pivots and stuff too, it's cool. Anyway, invest in a good scraper and brush. Also, always keep a bottle of that de-icer spray for your windshield. Buy the kind in the pump spray, not the aerosol one. Don't use the de-icer on thick ice, though, you need to scrape really thick ice off. The spray is good for getting light to medium ice. And the bottle seems to expand in hot weather, so make sure it's sealed up tight when you leave it in your car for long periods of time. (that happened to me a few times... either way, I'm glad I had the de-icer for my windows)

Warm it up then scrape it off, never ever put boiling water on it it may crack the windshield.

Just get the ice off the windows, the rest will fall up as the car gets warmer and it is in motion.

u should put cold water on the ice then use ur windshield and turn the defroster on the hottest setting. You should also try putting a sheet over the window ( the night before) ......it helps by repealing the ice that way you dont have to deal with the ice. Hope this helps!

You can vigorously use a plastic scraper on any glass without fear of scratching. Don't try to get it off the paint. A credit card works in a pinch.
