In what state did The Simpsons reside?

There is a Springfield in just about every state. In any episode, has it ever been revealed which state? Are there any clues which could eliminate states or point us toward a specific region? The answer "No one knows" isn't helpful; that's why I asked the question! Also, if you suggest a state, could you point to an episode that revealed it? Thanks, yahoo!

well, as stated by the others, it's never been said which state it was....they'll make it sound like they're about say which state and then stop, etc.....but the creator of the show grew up in springfield, oregon....which has the same rivalry with eugene, oregon like they do with shelbyville on the show, and the outdoors scenes really do look a lot like oregon....but even he has said, it's really no certain springfield, growing up in oregon has had some effect on they way he draws forest scenes, etc, but he just used the name springfield because it was such a common name...
