Why do some IPOD's say "1st, 2nd,3rd Generation" ??

What does the generations mean? What is it all about??

The first ever IPODS were called 1st generation and the later one were called 2nd gen and so forth,........With each new generation, the IPODs may have improvement like smaller size, more capacity,...etc,....

oh thats just like lets say the newer the ipod the higher the generation.....thats all
