Syllables are how a word is broken down by pronounciation. Get a dictionary and pick a word...The mark above the word broken down in syllables is called a stress mark. That means you say that part or syllable of the word harder. Do teachers work anymore at the basics. Parents should get a book going for the basic skills...They could call it What a Teacher Does Not Teach Kids...Grade 1 Grade 2 etc...Who wants to make a million?

I'd give it a 1.5 on the syllable count
Neither MEEL nor ME uhl would sound strange to native english ears. Sort of halfway in between.

Actually I've seen worse asked questions, 'meal' has 2 syllables, me / al.
