You should focus on selling yourself for the reasons of the employer's advantages of hiring someone WITHOUT 3-5 years of experience, i.e. "I have no bad work habits and you can mold and train me how you want", "I'll start at a lower salary and save you money than if you hired someone with more experience, as they'd want higher wages", even offer to work for them for free on a trial basis i.e. one week and if they like what they see, they'd hire you. Who could refuse that? it'd be no loss to them. Tell them you're eager to learn, excited about the field, and that people in field awhile may not be so enthused or interested as you and not as willing to learn new things. Tell them you're highly flexible, adaptable and like clay in their hands. Tell them you have no young children at home or a spouse to pull you away from your work, that you're willing to work overtime and weekends if requested, and that you'd go the extra mile to prove yourself if they'd just give you a chance. Call and ask for a second interview. And be sure to send thank you letter for interview, and state these things in letter if needed.

They're looking for experience so that's the most important. Doesn't mean you're out though. On three of my last four jobs, I was the 2nd choice. The 1st choice quit after one day on all of them. I kept one for two and a half years, one for four years, and the other for three years. So don't give up!

i would say that they are telling you that you have the potential but htey not quite ready to hire you because you dont have enough experience. you should look for other job openings for right now buy after 2-3 years go back and apply there.
