No the USA should not switch to the metric system. We are the only country in the world who uses the old English style and we like it. Its just like soccer. Everwhere else in the world Soccer is number one. But in the USA its down at the bottom of popularity. Why because Americans like to be different and we dont like the world coming in and telling us how to do things. So let the world keep its metric system and we will keep our. Good day to you mam.

You'll have to consult with the Americans on this, but as far as I know, they have been using the metric system for decades. They use both American measure, based on old English, yards, feet and inches and weights, pounds and ounces etc. At the same time, the Americans also use the metric system but not yet at the gas pumps where you get auto juice in gallons.
In UK although we have been metric since the 1970s you can still buy things in old measures if you wish. In a pub you still get beer measured by the pint or half pint and not by the litre.
The English mile will go sometime soon. Watch out for that - could be a big event.
England is measured in Roman miles.
The railways are measured in leagues and chains.
Its all a bit complex really.

There was an effort to do that back in the early 1970s. The idea was to have gone metric by 1976. You see how well it went over...
America will never go metric because to do so would be a massive educational undertaking. Our kids today graduate high school without being able to read the diploma. There's no point in it.

What USA? We're done for. We have no future so who cares if we go to the metric system or not. Zero is still zero even in the metric system.

No. The theory is supposed to be that it is more 'scientific' because a cubic centimeter of water equals a gram or some such. But who makes water the determining factor?
I'm sure a square inch of SOMETHING equals an ounce....
I like differences in cultures, myself.
One of the fun things about traveling in Europe used to be the different money and languages. Now it almost isn't worth it to travel, except for the structures.

I thought it would happen in the 70's, especially since I had a science background. Sure would be easier, but I don't see it happening in the foreseeable future.

Why does everyone want to change America? We are the greatest nation in the world. Maybe, just maybe, everyone else is wrong. No we should not convert.

Yes. Considering we are the only people on the planet who don't use it. But we won't. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks. ;)

If we convert, then the terrorists win.
Don't you know we invaded Iraq to preserve feet and pounds?
