I am planning a fundraiser for a friend who is battling cancer for the second time in two years. She is going through her chemo now while continuing to work. Her husband isnt working thru no fault of his own. She is trying to save her vaction/sick time for the possibility of radiation. She has one teenaged daughter at home. My friend is the only one working. We want to have a fundraiser for her. We are having a band, food and raffles. I think maybe a bonfire. Has anyone else ever organized a fundraiser before? Or been to one? If you have any ideas or fun things that we could do, or if you can tell me any fun things you might've done or seen at one, it would be appreciated! Thank you all!

Can you ask artists, local restaurants and businesses, and church and community members for donations of art, gift certificates, or other items to a "silent auction?" Donors list the minimum bid on a sign up sheet, where bidders write their names/address/telephone numbers and the amount of their bid.

Publicizing the auction will invite both potential donors and bidders to get involved in helping. It is also fun and creates a nice display at the event, especially if artists display their work.

Because of the holiday season, this is a great way to pick up unique gifts for friends while supporting a good cause.

A car wash is an old standby, easy. A fashion show could be done, hard. 50/50 raffles are easy, just need a roll of tickets and visit all the local bowling alleys, each night of the week - lots of people in one place, I just bought a 50/50 raffle ticket at my alley for some local good cause, they made $125, somebody won $125. You can try to put donation jars in local businesses. Pop can drive.

You can sell plate lunches for around 5.00 or 6.00 a piece and people would buy that , especially around businesses with lunch hours.
Have you thought about selling things on Ebay? Maybe you can get some money from your sells on that.

Have a couple of families go in with each other and have a big garage sale.

Since it is getting cold in most places, sell cups of hot chocolate.

Good luck, I think this is a tremendously loving gesture for your friend, I hope she gets better.
