do people who use sata/ii drives notice a difference in speed versus that of ide drives? how about in comparison to something like the wd raptor?

Really, there is not much of a diff. that I notice. Of course SATA in mine is 7600 rpm and the IDE is 5200. But to an untrained eye I do not see much diff. I think it is all a big hype.

I will migrate the IDE to SATA and get rid of IDE later. There may be a difference then, I do not know.

I run Vista (beta) in SATA and XP sp2 in IDE. I dual boot depending on what I want to do. They both work flawlessly. I like the Vista. It is quit intuitive and some of the features are excellent.
I will certainly buy Vista after it's official release.

YES!! I love mine. Instalation of windows XP pro took about 32 min on my old IDE 80 GIG 7,200 RPM Drive and it took about 15 min to do it on my 200 GIG SATA!! Formating four drives!!
And SP2 on the SATA took a total 0f 10 min to put on including restart!
I love it. :)
