Is Clooney popular for any other reason than having played a pediatrician on ER?

Is Barak Obama worth the hype, or are there a lot of deer in the headlights people out there?

Correction: Barack.

That's the thing, though. To me, liking a guy on the basis that he's not the status quo, as opposed to proven qualification, is moronic to me. If people don't want old white guys, surely there are better African American, mixed race, etc., candidates.

Yes, Clooney is popular for other reasons besides ER. A lot of females (and probably some gay guys) think Clooney is handsome, and nothing in our society gets you more popularity than being handsome. Also, he's be in a lot of movies too, and that helps. He was Batman for a little while. He's been in the newer Oceans Eleven movies and in the criticially acclaimed "Goodnight and Goodluck."

As for Obama, I think he gets a lot of hype because he's such a "new" face to the scene. Traditionally, most White House candidates are older white dudes. Obama is a breath of fresh air for some. But, whether or not that relates into votes is another thing. Most people like that breath of fresh air, but when it comes to choosing the leader of the free world, we tend to go back to our security blanket and vote in more old white guys.

I think Clooney is popular outside of ER. Papa Clooney is a Kentucky politician, Aunt Rosemary Clooney is a singer, and cousin Miguel Ferrer (Rosemary's son) is a movie actor. He also smashes Bill O'Reilly and George Bush so I guess that would make him popular too, I suppose.

Obama has not even reached the one-thirdway point of his Senate term, so he has no track record other than, perhaps, being the first black Illinoisan to be elected to a U.S. Senate position. And, yes, there are a lot of deer in the headlights people out there.

George Clooney, I think, is actually a talented actor and director, so he deserves his popularity....

Obama---unfortunately, I think he's being overhyped and it's not his fault. I think he does have some very fantastic ideas, I think he's intelligent, and *potentially* what the White House needs. The unforunate part is that I'm not sure everyone who's on the Obama bandwagon are on it for the right reasons. i think they are deers in headlights who have jumped on because it's the popular thing to do. And there's going to be backlash because of that, and it will suddenly become popular to bash Obama and he'll suffer for it.
