I don't have enough memory on my desktop (i've deleted all unused programs and emptied out the garbage can), so can I just save a movie directly on my hard drive? If so, how?

I'm unclear on your question here. If you don't have enough memory on your desktop computer, add more. If the hard drive is too small, get one that's bigger. To save movies to the hard drive you'll need a movie decrypter of some type. If you mess with video, you should have a 2.0GHz processor and 1GB of memory. You'll need a hard drive of at least 250GB to save the movies to. Each hour of video will chew up 1GB of hard drive space. Only save videos that you plan on editing. Delete the temporary Internet files and history in IE. Download Windows critical updates then download, update, and run Ad-Aware, Spy-bot Search and Destroy, and Windows Defender. Then do a defrag.

I'm assuming that the machine is telling you that you don't have enough space to store your movie. You may need an external hard drive to continue your project. First check to see how much available space your machine has. A movie can be about 1GB for every three minutes. Perhaps you need to cut your movie down.
Good luck.

Your desktop is ON your hard drive - not everything in your computer is on your desktop... try uninstalling some programs or deleting some junk off your drive.
