My doctor told me I could take Tylenol and Aleve together for cramps, but I don't know if that was a one time thing or if I can do it again. She gave me Motrin 600 but it doesn't work at all so I am not taking it. What can I do? I took two Aleve and am holding a hot water bottle on me?

Great answer, 1st answerer. I do that all ready on the suggestion of my dr. I have been taking Aleve since Monday ( I was a little late this month).

You might try some vitamin E 400 IU before the period starts and increase it to twice daily when cramps occur. Also take one or two calcium-magnesium-zinc pills on non-cramp days and go to two pills 3 times a day when cramping. Take with meals. Also, take a good women's multiple vitamin. This has helped some gals I know get thru the miseries. Good luck!

Here is the story with cramps - the hormones that cause them circulate in your system for quite a while BEFORE and AFTER your cycle starts. Since those hormones "got out of the gate" before the painkiller did, you kind of have to wait to take several doses of the painkiller before it takes effect.

What I have to do, is take the aleve for a day or two before my cycle starts (so the painkiller can block the pain before it starts) and then tylenol every four hours from the minute it starts until day 3 or 4 when it finally stops so that those hormones don't have a chance to do thier nasty work.

Cramps are nasty, but they can be managed if you take a stance against them - and lets face it, it might be a pain in the *** to remember to track your cycle to take the pills and remember to carry them around so you can take them - but its not worth feeling pain, so in the end, its worth it.
