I live in a home where my mom smokes and her BF smokes. I hate it. I can't stand smoke and I always smell it and breath it in. I'm working my bum off so I can move out as fast as I can. I always start fights becuase they are killing me and I hate it. what can I do? What Can I say that will have an effect on them about not smoking?

Close your door, secure all openings so that nothing gets through, leave the window open.

If it's cold where you are, leave the window open and turn the heater on full.

Keep saving until you have enough to move out. If you want to get out more quickly, think about a roommate.

Leave your mother and her boyfriend alone - you have aggravated them enough already.

People who are addicted to smoking have a really hard time quitting unless they have a really good motivator. You may think that your health being at risk is a good enough motivator, but obviously its not to your mom and bf. Instead of whining and starting fights that just make you even more frustrated find a relative to move in with, or buy an air purifier, or hey, don't stay in the same room as one of the smokers.

You have my sympathy .. I was in a similar situation. I did manage to set the ground rule that when they came into my bedroom, there was no smoking. It was really hard to get them to agree but in my situation, I used a combination of anger without going ballistic, plus logic: "I have no choice but to live here for right now, but if it matters to you, I am miserable because I can't tolerate the smell of your smoking and the risk you cause to my own health. I have chosen not to smoke. I can't stop you from smoking but I do ask that you please compromise with me and respect my concerns."

But truthfully, you won't be happy until you can move out of that house. In the meantime, are you in a position to purchase one of those machines that recirculates the air and filters out the impurities? I know they're expensive but if you're not going to be able to move out for a long while, it might be worth the investment.

Good luck, hon!

Hey I live in a smoking home too. =/.. Maybe you can ask the smoking person to only smoke outside or in the garage. Or try to get them to quit. The smoker in my house didnt listen but he did cut back. Hopefully, the smoker in your household will understand the consequences they're putting you through. Good Luck!

go to the one dollar store, and buy a painter's mask. Wear it when they are smoking around you, until you can get out. I have a sign in my apartment!! No smoking!! If they want to smoke then have to do it outside. Because it is your mum's place, wear the mask, and hurry up and get out of dodge!! Budget, don't eat out, or movies so you can get out faster. Second hand smoke will kill you faster.

open all the windows and let them freeze, seriously unless they WANT to stop smoking nothing will stop them,no matter what you may say to them, don't they realise they are harming your health as well as their own, passive smoking is as dangerous as putting that dirty weed in your mouth, Good luck. I hope they see sense.

Go to a friend's house and stay there as long as you can, then they will realize that they miss you, and they'll hopefully call you up and you can explain how you feel, and hopefully they'll stop smoking their lungs out.

If I could bring my husband to them to see his condition at this time I would. He has stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to other organs. Try to have a serious talk with them. Smokers don't believe anything will happen to them. Some who know they can get cancer don't care.

I would imagine that if you are living with your mom and her boyfriend, you are probably living there for free. They are paying the bills and it's their right to smoke in their own house. Start paying your own bills and then you can make the rules.
