I am currently in the same situation. I am 28 years old, 32 weeks pregnant with my 1st child. My boyfriend and I neither one have insurance and October 26th I became unemployed. I feel the same as you guilty but I am doing it for my baby right now cause I don't know what else to do to get help. But I plan on it being temporary as soon as I can get a job after having my baby I plan on getting off government assistance. Good luck and don't be ashamed you are not alone.

Don't feel guilty! Your parents pay taxes right? you pay taxes, your boyfriend pays taxes! That is what it is there for! I'm sure your friends and family would rather have the help go to you instead of some crackhead!! At least get the medicaid, it is really expensive to have a baby! Good luck!

I never applied for assistance before either... and for some stupid reason felt like only lazy people used it... when I was younger, our neighbors had 5 kids and neither parent worked... and they were always sitting on their front porch with beer and grubby kids...
Well, that was TOTALLY naive of me.... I worked full time for 15 years and then was in a position where I could not work... and had to get aid... so, allow yourself to be humble, realize that it is there for people who honestly need it... and remember you have paid your taxes too, so maybe you deserve just a little bit of help until you can get on your feet again!

as you can see by the answers your question evoked....sure go ahead and use the system that those of us NOT on any assistance pay for and hell.....have a few more kids that you are unable to "pay for". There is absolutely nothing wrong in "needing" assistance, but comments like babyashde-Blondi and Katie left are some of the reasons why so many look down on the system that was meant to be a saftey net NOT a given

you are the sort of person who SHOULD apply for help. You need it and your mindset is not that you are owed anything. You are the sort of person that makes me happy that my taxes help.

I have an 8 month od...babies are great but expensive and you need to do whatever it takes for him/her. It won't be the last time as a parent you will have to swallow your pride or feel guilty.....

Weigh your options carefully and figure out whats best for you. You will have to go to court and file for child support from the childs father even if you live in the same home. And they usually go after the father for half of the cost of the birth. Personally, I'd stay as far away from the "system" as I could get.

if you really need the help you should apply. you pay into it, why not use it when you really need it. however, just be advised that you might not get it. my boyfriend and i were struggling when i got pregnant. we decided to get married, which was the worst thing we could have done. together they said the we made too much money. however, if we wouldn't have gotten married, everything would have been paid for.

For health care you should apply. You can always avoid wic and welfare. My mom raised three kids on my dads 20k a year salery, and we never needed government aid. We might not have had nice things, but we had a house and food and clothes.

The health care you really cant do without. Its there whether you use it or not, because you qualify for it. So you might as well use it. You'll find its a pain in the *** to get and wont cover diddly squat anyway, so you wont feel bad in the end for getting it. :)

Yes definitley get it. I had Medicaid with my first and second child. We didnt have any kind of insurance and that was the only way would were going to do it. I didnt like the idea either, but its for the health of you baby and you. Its ok.
