today i went to pick it up and the manager said that he has no idea what happened to both of my checks but that he has the paper where it shows that i worked. i just can't understand how 2 pay checks can be "lost"

they haven't mailed them because today is paid day

No, they have to give you money that you have earned.
If you were fired for theft, or for other issues and the employer is trying to gain restitution, then they have to file a separate claim against you.
If you don't get paid, call your State Labor board. And an attorney. Attorneys love these types of slam-dunk cases.

Most states have a State Labor Board/Labor Relations where you can file a complaint to get your paycheck. Depending on the state and the laws, the labor board may give you your check plus more from the former employer.

Hell no. Get your money. Unless you are under suspicion of stealing or something, but there has to be documentation to back it up. Get your money, contact an attorney if not, or maybe state attorney generals office.

no it's illegal, it is like stealing. Unless you caused property damage or stole (not saying you did) and it will cover the cost of the damage you did. Other than that, they have to give it to you.

They may have mailed the checks to you. Either way, they still have to pay you.

No it is against the law, when they fire you, they are required to give u your final pay. Get a laywer!

Did you agree to work for FREE? I doubt it! They owe you your pay or take them to court!
