The buildings look the same on the outside except when I was there we didn't have air conditioning, we had to suffer in the heat. They all now have window units.
When I was in school they didn't have block scheduling, now they do.

I was in middle school from 74-79. There were no air conditioners. Just windows all the way down the wall. The bleachers in the gym were concrete and did not fold up to the wall. We had to walk in a straight line in the hall and had teachers in the hall that hit you with a ruler if you got out of the line. We coudlnt' talk in the lunchroom and got 'points' if we did.
When the bell rang, we could not get out of our seats until teacher told us to. Just plain respect, what happened to it?
Principal would paddle the kids in front of the class with a thick paddle with holes in it.
Our food was the same thing every day of the week. It was regular food and not all the junk they have now.
Kids could smoke at school back then and had an area just for that. All the 'cool' kids hang out there.
In high school 79-83, the school was new. Air conditioners and no windows. We got to choose our own classes and which period to take them, just as long as we got our credits to graduate. We had spirit week and dressed crazy all week. We had pep rallies in the gym on some Fridays.
There was no harassing the teachers, there was still pretty much respect back then.
I know some of this sounds bad, but hey, look at how kids in school are now.
At least we knew we would get the crap beat out of us at school and then at home if we got out of line.
Schools can't do that anymore, that's why kids are crazy now.
We could openly talk about God and bible. Had people to come to school for programs in the gym about this.
Gay and lesbian was virtually unheard of.
Drugs were around, but mostly for the 'bad' kids.
A few pregnancies, maybe 5-7 in a whole year out of 500 girls.
No phones, no coke or candy machines.
We had to share lockers and not have one alone. I didn't like that part.
Teachers got to do different things to teach us instead of just the books and paper like they have to do now. Thanks to NCLB for that...
Pics of our teen idols all in our lockers. Nowdays I see it's the 'preteens' who are into idols. I got those mags up until I was 17.
AAAHHHHHH, the good ol days!

Okay, I'm old. I graduated in '81 and from what I see of my kids high school little has changed over the years when it comes to schools. It's weird...my Sr. High is an elementray school now. Another building has been torn down...it all seems kinda sad somehow. The school my kids attend looks just like mine did...and still smells like gymsocks, chalk, and cleaners with an over smell of mystery meat in the morning. lol
We had alot more choices of classes in high school...and no PSSA's to worry with. Might have had something to do with living in Ohio. lol I wouldn't want to be 16 again...it seems like you have more to worry with than we did. And yet you also seem to have more than we did....but the basic's are still the same. We wanted lots of friends, to be cool, to get good grades, to be free from our parents, have our own phones & cars.
Things are more violent now. People taking guns to school. Every day there seems to be fights...or bomb scares....or lock downs. We didn't have to deal with HIV/AIDS in the early 80's...and usually there was only one or two pregnancies per class that you actually knew about. We weren't afraid to be alone with a teacher, or to walk the long way home. Buses were for the kids that lived too far to walk...Football games were fun...a real social event. Alot of the clothes are back...I always loved bell bottoms...oops boot cut jeans.

I graduated in 1986. Schools looked pretty much the same - vending machines in school were pretty new back then, as was advertising in schools. There wasn't any air conditioning, you just had to cope with the heat. Walls were often pained industrial green. The cafeteria didn't serve stuff like pizza and you didn't have a choice over what you got for lunch. They sold one thing and that was it. There were no metal detectors, and most schools didn't have security guards.

I went to school in the late eighties. The outside was the same except now some schools are using mobile homes as extra rooms due to overcrowding. There weren't metal detectors. We had typing class with typewriters instead of computers and computer class. There wasn't block scheduling or uniforms. None of the kids had cellphones. We had walkmans (with cassettes) instead of portable cd players or MP3 players.

They are the same. unless you are in a new school. I think that school back then was not as stressful as it is today. And you have a lot more to learn. But, You have the same problems that we had, boy friends and girl friends, to do or not to do drugs or drink. Just have fun. It my not be the best time of your life. But they are time you will never forget

in the 80's alot of schools tried this thing called open schooling, where they took down the walls between classrooms, and, as you can imagine, it totally flopped--an absolute disaster! it was noisy, kids snuck out all the time--i had fun, but the teachers hated it!! lol!!!
