x = youngest brother's age
x + 4 = other brother's age
2(x + 4) = Anna's age

x + (x + 4) + 2(x + 4) = 32
x + x + 4 + 2x + 8 = 32
4x + 12 = 32
4x = 20
x = 5
x + 4 = 9
2(x + 4) = 18

ANSWER: Anna is 18 years old.

OK, to solve this, set Anna's age to x

x = Anna's age
x/2 = brother 1's age
(x/2) - 4 = brother 2's age

Adding all three siblings ages together, you get:

x + (x/2) + (x/2) - 4 = 32

Solve for x:

2x - 4 = 32
2x = 36
x = 18

Since x = Anna's age, then she's 18.

Always double check by calculating the brother's ages, by plugging it back into the equations up top (brother 1's age is 9, brother 2's age is 5, 18 + 9 + 5 = 32! Correct)

32 = 2 x + x + x -4

4x = 36 => x = 9

Anna = 2x = 18
Brother = x = 9
Other brother = x - 4 = 5

18+9+5 = 32

For future reference, please write the question in the "detailed" portion of yahoo questions so it will all fit.

Let B = age of Anna's brother.
Then 2B = age of Anna, and
B+4 = age of other brother

The sum of the ages is 32. Therefore,

B + 2B + B + 4 = 32.

Combine like terms,

4B + 4 = 32
4B = 28
B = 7

Therefore, Anna's brother is 7, Anna is 14, and the other brother is 11.
