Yes, PS2 Games Can Play On The PS3, Even Orivinal PlayStation Games (then again, you can download those on the system's 'playstation store). And As Of Now, Unlike The 360, The PS3 Will Not Enhance Graphics For The Games..

It Should Be Noted That There's Some Problems In The Backwards Compatability, But That's Trying To Be Fixed..
It Should Be Also Noted That Not ALL Games Will Play, Like Guitar Hero, Since There's Currently No Way To Plug The Controller In! (unless you like to play on the regular controller..)
Also To Be Noted: Since You Will Be Using The PS3's 'Sixaxis' controller, There Will Be No Rumble In The Games..

anyways, If You Want To Know What Specific Games Works Or Not, See The Following Link (1) On What Problems Are Encountered In The Game You Entered..

OK out of a possible 8000 games for ps2 and ps1 the Ps3 only supports 7800. So it depends on the game. Also The game will not briadcast in high def because the ps3 cannot upscale the older games.

Yes, PS2 games will play on a PS3.

It was actually publicized that the PS3 was having problems with it's "backward compatibility". But that is something they are working on, and are currently fixing.

The PS3 is designed to play old PS2 games; and probably PS games, too.
