if your dream is deffered it is set aside. so a dream that festers means that it loses its will and its not as important anymore. if it dries up it is erased from your head completely. if it stinks like rotten meat it means you look at your dream as if it disgusts you for thinking about it. if it crusts and sugars over you look at your dream with more joy and you are delighted by it, but if it explodes it came true and your dream has given you things you never had.

I think it has to do with the limits that are placed on a man because he is black. The limits either he places on himself, the ones put there by other black men and women or the limits put there by white people in the southern part of the United States.
A black man is intelligent, he is able, he is wise and he is many things inside, but we look at his appearance. Our actions limit his actions. A black man wants to accomplish something, he wants a job, who will give him one? If the clients are white, will they trust a black man? The unseen force of opinion formed from a man's appearance blockades the desires of that man's heart.
So what does this man do when he is not able to accomplish what he has set for himself, though he knows he is able, prevented by invisible thoughts and strange answers. Does he go home? Does he hang out in the hallway? Does he beat on the walls or cry or drink some water? Is he patient, is he quiet, is he loud, is he louder?
A Dream Deferred
by Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
