When people write music, that is; the word to the song - who writes the music behind the singers? I see in movies where a song writer, using either a gituar or a piano, writes a few notes on song paper. Next thing that happens; there is a studio full of musicians and all that music is being played behind the singers. Who wrote all that music?

It depends. The main songwriter will usually write the lyrical melody, and sometimes the chord progression, as well. Once he gets the basic song written, he/she hires studio musicians to come and play what has been written. Some times the studio musicians will improvise on certain parts and add fills to compliment the original melody. Sometimes, however, the songwriter writes every single part for every single instrument. It varies from writer to writer.

There are different components to writing a song. You can write the music first then the lyrics or vise verse. If you write a song and someone changes the chord progression or adds a nice lick, they must also be given writing credit for the song. A good example of this was the Beatles, McCartney wrote most of the music and lyrics and Lennon would change a verse or chord.
Most of the Beatles song credits are McCartney/Lennon.

More than likely the person who wrote the lyrics. How can you write a song with no beat. Then it wouldn't be a song, it would be a poem. So the person who wrote the song is the only person who knows the beat is what I'm trying to say. I think thats what you were talking about. Oh yeah, another thing. Thats a movie. You know your not suppose to believe everything you see on tv.

In bands generally the whole band writes it. In a studio setting(someone w/out a band) ghost writers write the music as well as most of the lyrics(on occasion)

anyone can write a short piece of music, but what you are talking about is an "arranger", that person takes the original music and arranges it in a way that other instruments can take the essence of any particular part of the original piece
