It is most likely NOT the baby on your pelvis. At 5 months, your baby moves sooo much and lots of those movements go unnoticed by you, so if you feel short periods of pain in your pelvis, that could be the baby, but he/she probably wouldn't stay there long enough to keep you wondering for 20 minutes. More likely, your baby and your expanding uterus are pushing on a nerve in your back...the nerves in your back cause pain in your pelvis, in your hips, in your crotch, in your legs, knees, ankles, even in your abdomen. In my experience, you will have this pain on and off for a few days up to the length of your pregnancy. Try stretching gently, have your partner give you a massage, take a warm bath, Tylenol, switch positions...get the baby and uterus off your nerves...later in pregnancy, by the way, which is what I think most people are confusing with this, when the baby turns head-down right around 32-34 weeks or so, then the pelvic pain and pressure you feel will be from the baby. This pain, though, if it becomes constant and not on and off, or if it becomes so severe that you can't stand it, call your doctor first thing in the morning.

It very well could be what others have suggested, either the baby putting pressure on your pubic bone, or (because of hormones getting your body ready for birth) the joint in the middle of the pubic bone can begin to rub together when you walk. In some it is mild, in others (rarely) it can be really severe. What bothers me though is the way you say the pain comes and goes. That sounds more like cramping. The most likely cause would be a bladder infection. If you have noticed urinating more frequently, cloudy urine, nausea, with or without burning or pain while urinating, this would be my guess. You can't rule out the possibility of uterine contractions. In any case, if this on and off pain doesn't go away you need to get it checked out by your doctor or midwife.

I hope you dont have what I have... Im 8 months and have been in constant pain from the middle of my fifth month. It could be a seperation of your pubic bone (pubic symphasis). I can't remember what my doctor called it, but there is some usefull information available at most medical websites. Id give you links, but I dont have my favorites on this computer, im sorry.

I had that too, it went away afte I had the baby, but it was awful. Sharp shooting pains up through the area. Usually walking more slowly would help, but I never got a remedy for it during pregnancy.

When I wasn't as far along my dr told me it was a big ligament stretching. Now that I am 32 weeks it is the baby putting pressure on my pelvis. I would ask your dr to help put your mind at ease.

It is from the pressure of the baby sitting on your pelvis.

you need to go get checked for this. it could be that your body is giving because the baby is getting bigger.but to be on the safe side i would put my fears to rest and get checked by a doctor.

I wouldn't panic or anything....... Just mention it to your OB the next time you go in. Its probably the way the baby is positioned.
