"The Little Prince" by Antoine Saint-Exupery is one of my favorites. It looks like a children's book, but is really a deep story for adults that really makes you think about life issues and what is truly important.
The main character in the book meets a little prince from an unknown world. In each chapter the prince tells the boy about the different characters he has encountered in his life and each has a moral that is not "in your face" - each has a life lesson that you can interpret.
The book is one that brings out the kid in you as well. It has a "Peter Pan" kind of affect, where you relive the wonderful things about being a child.

"The Little Prince" is a book I will always treasure...I had a similar feeling to when I read "Tuesdays with Morrie" afterward (if you have read the latter).

V.C. Andrews. She is a really good author. I'm reading the Cutler family series. There are 5 books. I'm reading book 3 right now.
Dawn*book 1*- Dawn Longbottom starts at a new prep school because her father gets a job as head janitor there. She finds out that she was kidnapped by her father right now. Her real last name is Cutler not Longbottom.
Secrets of the morning- Dawn goes to New York City for an acting/singing program. The school gets a really good actor/singer to come in and teach. Dawn is one of the 6 people chosen to study under him. Dawn and Michael hook up and start a relationship and she gets pregnant. Michael runs off and Dawn is sent to a house in the woods to have the baby.
Twilights child- Christie Dawn's child is now 2 years old. They live at the Cutler family's hotel. Jimmy Longbottom(yes the boy that Dawn used to think was her brother) and Dawn get married. They have a small wedding and then about 7 months later she gets pregnant but she loses the baby. A couple months later her and Jimmy find Fern the girl that she thought was her sister. (This is where I am right now)

It depends what sort of book you like. If you like a very light read, with a good story line, you should read A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. If you're into history, definetely read A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. It is the most moving story I've ever read, and although it starts off slowly, it is written beautifully, the imagery is wonderful, and Dickens describes everything with amazing detail. If you're looking for something that will leave you with a permanent reminder, something deeper, with a universal truth, I have a few suggestions :
Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse-This is a book about a man's spiritual journey. It really is a reflection of things one goes through in modern day life.
The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea by Yukio Mishima- This is a semi-biographical story of the author's own thoughts about life. I can't explain it, you just HAVE to read it.
I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou- Also a semi-biographical novel, about a young african-american girl living in post-WWII America. It is a tale of growing up, maturing, and learning all about life.

You didn't list a preference for types of books. Personally, I like Biographies and historical non-fiction. Here are some of my favorites:
The Raven (the life of Sam Houston); American Caesar (Douglas MacArthur-this is a really big book); I could never be so lucky again (Jimmy Doolittle); Fly for your life (Robert Sanford Tuck); The Day I owned the Sky (Robt.Lee Scott jr.); I Rode with Stonewall (Henry Kyd Douglas); and October Sky (Homer Hickham about KY high school boys building model rockets and growing up. The book they made the movie from.)
There was also one about George Washington, but there are so many and I don't remember the author's name.
I also like political books. Ann Coulter is my favorite author, I just finished her latest one.
Sea Searchers and Sea Searchers II are excellent books about hunting for sunken ships by the guy that found the CSS Hundley.

You know what I do when I want to read a good book? I go to the local Salvation Army and dig through their books. I've read some brand new books, for only $1 and they've got some great selections. I've read books from there that otherwise, I might not have picked up. Anyway, that's just my suggestion. Although I have read recently "Better Days Ahead" Charlie Valentine. It was a pretty good book, too. You may like it.

If you like fantasy, try "Winter Rose" by Patricia McKillip. It's a story about a girl who has been allowed to run free by her father for most of her life. Then a stranger comes to town to restore his family's old home, and odd things start to happen. Both he and the strange things intrigue the girl, and get her into some interesting situations.
If you're looking for fairy tales, try "Spindle's End" by Robin McKinley. It's a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, in which Rose is not just a do-nothing princess who sits around waiting for things to happen to her.
If you're into classics, try "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte. It's about a girl who is raised by an aunt who hates her, is sent to a horrible boarding school, and then goes on to make her own way (and her own happiness) in life.

because its the best vampire teen romance book. when i read it i kept on reading them for more than once and i always keep thinking about the story and the character. plus i go to the author's website and keep searching the book. plus the main characters are really easy to like. lots of girls love the main guy characters

Series Of Unfortunate Events. If you don't know, it's about three orphans who try to get away from a villian named Count Olaf and there's way more to the story. There's thriteen books and one movie

The Education of Little Tree
takes place in the 1930s and is about a young orphan boy who has to go live with his granparents in the mountains. His grandfather is half Cherokee. It is touching, hilarious, interesting, and easily readable.
