Depends on the type of market you are trying to attract-what will work in an urban are may lose you money in a suburban area and vice versa.

Brands and companies change so fast and are often regionally accepted ie Michigan suburbs and California suburbs will have different trends especially depending upon the time of year.

I would say that your local radio stations would be a good start for you-find the hottest local station and they may even be willing to sponsor your event. They can also advise on trend through their PR company. They are not going to spend money on something that wont fly. I am not sure this is what you are looking for but i know this is a fickle group that you are looking to cater to

Good Luck

The answer varies by the scope of your event. A national level gig could draw in companies aiming exclusively at your target audience. A local gig would most likely need to include hybrid marketers reaching out to a number of target groups. Walk a local mall and see where the action is. Offer a group at the local college a free pizza for a 10 minute brain storm.
You ask an excellent question which most retailers are seeking to answer: WHERE IS THE MONEY i.e. teens/young adults.
