Curley's wife could or could not have been avoided

"Of Mice and Men". For those who have read the story, the mice mentioned in the title might bring to mind the visual of Lennie stroking his dead mouse, but I see another reason for the word "mice" in the title. Man is classified as an animal, a mammal to be exact, and we like to think of ourselves as the highest order of animal on the planet. But are we? Was the interaction between Lennie and Curly's wife mere flirtation, or was it a mating ritual gone wrong? DId Lennie have to die because he acted like an "animal" or was there a deeper reason for his death? Could it be that his strength and power gave him the position of the dominant male when Curly challenged him and that there was an unspoken agreement by the pack to pull him down as the leader to prevent his genes from carrying to another generation? Could Curly's wife's death and Lennies been avoided if Lennie had not been an alpha male?

I read the book 2 weeks ago 4 school. Curley's wife's death could have been avoided, and Lennie's couldn't. Trust me.
