Does anyone remember when we didn't start hearing about Christmas 3 months in advance?

Unfortunately it started when stores started competing for business. They figure sooner they get people to think of Christmas, the sooner people shop and the more they shop. It's really sad.

Now if we are talking about the true meaning of Christmas, that should last all year long.

Ah, the joys of capitalism and the mighty dollar..
Seems like I was a child when we didn't have a long season and every year the advertising starts earlier and earlier.

A lot of the Feast and festival days that are encompassed by the winter holiday season include Solstice, Yule, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Teng Chieh, Diwali, Soyal, Las Posadas, Zagmuk, and Saturnalia. Commercialization of these festivals and religious holidays as well as the season have grown into what we see today.

Over the years and through the 18th and 19th Century, the battle for the most important holiday ensued with advertising spreading over time.

Hard to believe this stemmed from winter holiday season which was the season of festivals coinciding with the conclusion of the agricultural cycle...

Yes, I do....and I liked it that way....today is completely different .....it seems as time goes on the advertising agencies get richer and richer..........it's all about marketing today.
Christmas is too commercial anymore.....
My mother was telling me that when TV first started they said their wouldn't be all the annoying commercials that you hear on the radio.....well, that didn't last long........also, when I first got cable back in the early 1980's they said you wouldn't have all of those annoying commercials because you are paying for television.....well, that didn't last long..............vendors need to advertise.....it's all about the almighty dollar......period!
But I still know the true meaning of Christmas.

It became too commercial... businesses found a way to make a few extra bucks and they thought we were not paying attention!
