working for the company almost a year and was told to shave his George Michael look, gotee......... He actually was threatened a little saying if he did not, there is a chance he can loose his job. Am I correct, this is not legal and we can sue if necessary? Hoping this does not come to it....... Any ideas? Thank you

Depends on the company policy and State/City policies. Here in Kansas we have an at-will employment law, so they can fire you for anything, including hair color(I know a black lady with blonde hair for was fired because of her hair). Shame.

You might want to tell your husband to check the employee handbook. There may be some rule in there about facial hair. A company has the right to set the dress code policy as well as give a standard for hair and grooming. Just have him check it out and see what it says.

You didn't mention what type of job he has or what type of work he does that required the business to request that he cut his hair.

Why are we always looking to "sue?"

Why didn't he just ask his boss why was he being requested to cut his hair. Are there others with hair but not being asked to cut it?

Last, my son has a job that you are not allowed to wear facial hair except for a mustache. If he comes to work with even a tent of facial hair, they have clippers at hand and ask that the hair be removed immediately.

Best of luck.

It depends upon the job in addition to your location. In some instances the facial hair could present a risk to his life. (such as for someone who may need to wear an air mask which requires a positive seal.)

I would go talk to HR. Also, refer to his Handbook for his company. Sounds like harassment. I could see if he had a naked girl tattoo on his neck and he was in sales - and the manager asked him to cover it, but a goatee? Facial hair? Guys wear it all kinds of ways these days!

If his job requires to present a certain image, he can be asked to comply with the company policy. It's a common thing.

usually this happens to people who work within the hospitality industry (hotel, restaurant, food service) if he likes his job then shave it if he does not like it then fight it within the company's human resources dept keep in mind they could look for other reasons to fire him, read the employee manual have him look at other employees for examples at my company we are not allowed to have beards,go tees or soul patches, mustaches are fine as long as they are neatly trimmed ,any tattoos cannot show
