It's safe to skip your period! If it wasn't Seasonalle wouldn't be around! Seasonalle is not very much different than other monophasic pills. I think there is even one out there that is exactly the same as seasonalle, but women get a week of inactive/placebo or no pills. Women have been safely skipping their periods since 'the pill' was invented. Did you know, the reason that it took so long for pills like Seasonalle to be marketted was the taboo of menstration as well as the fear of feminism? If a woman can control her period, what's next?? She might get a job or choose not to have children all together! The horror! Really, this is how it was.
You can definitely call your doctor and/or pharmacist to get quick advice about skipping your period this way, but generally it shouldn't be a problem. If you are taking triphasic pills (pills that have different levels of hormones/different colours each week), it might be harder and you may experience break through bleeding. Break through bleeding does NOT mean that your pills are not working to prevent pregnancy only that they are not working to control your period. You can choose to use condoms though, if you are paranoid.
Do NOT stop taking your current pack early to have an early period. You must take at least 21 active pills in a row to keep your protection during your 7 days off and your first 7 days of your new pack. If you stop taking your pack early you will NOT be protected and you'll need to use condoms for your days off and for the first seven days of your next pack. You may get pregnant.
If you are uncomfortable with skipping your period for an entire month, you can just put it off for a week. When you get home from your boyfriends, you can have your period, but that would leave you with 2 weeks of birth control pills. You can either use them to skip your period again, or keep them around for back up incase you lose a pill, but you can NOT simply have a break, take 2 weeks of pills and then have another break without compromising protection. Remember, before taking a break, make sure you've taken AT LEAST 21 active pills.

Two people have written now that you "need" to have a period. That's not true. Being on the pill, you see that your period is lighter, right? That's because your body thinks it's pregnant (thus not releasing an egg, which is how bc works) and doesn't then form a uterine lining. So you won't get an infection. You could get breakthrough bleeding or have other hormonal issues like headache, crabbiness because your hormones could get thrown off. Regardless of the regulating of pills, your body still has hormone cycles. Lots of women do it, although some are not as successful as others because of what I wrote above. My only caution: if you're on a mutli-level pill...a pill with different levels of hormone throughout the month like Ortho Tri-Cyclin, this won't work and will completely mess up your system.

Hello there, I have done that before with no problems at all. All you have to do is skip the sugar pills and go to the next hormone pill at the start of the pack. I wouldnt like to do this all the time, but im sure it wouldnt hurt one time. Have a good vacation, enjoy!

It's perfectly safe to do this every now and then. If you want to do it more frequently, you should talk to your doctor to make sure you're on a good pill for that (i.e. not a high-dose pill). There is a new type of birth control pill specifically designed for this very thing now -- Seasonale -- and it would be a good choice for you if you wanted to limit your periods to just four a year. But if you just want to skip one every now and then, you can do that safely with your regular pill subscription.
Incidentally, the person above who said skipping your period will lead to the development of "abnormal cells" in your uterus is not correct.

You should not start a new pack because your body needs that down time to have a period which helps clean your uterus and not cause an infection. But sometimes with a lot of stress our bodies act out and we may skip a month. You can probably stop taking a week a head so that you can have your period before the trip and then start a new pack when you leave. But always ask your doctor since they know you and your cycle better than someone giving advice.

Yes, you can do that, but make sure you don't miss one of the new pack, because you could get spotting. It's perfectly safe for you to skip a period, in fact with Seasonale, you only have four periods a year. Have fun!!!

not a great idea. the hormones in the pill affect your mood and other parts of your body too, not just the bleeding. and if you don't have a period regularly the tissue that sits around in your uterus can get bored and start chaging to abnormal cells.

Yes, you can do that but you may have some break through bleeding. If you do have breakthrough bleeding then you cannot assume your pills as working and you should have protected sex.
