Unfortunately I think that those that you call non believers will probably not answer or maybe not even look at the other answers that have been given.

For your edificatiion, let me answer this as sincerely yet briefly as I can. Christmas has its roots in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Some say that the reason that we give presents at Christmas is that the Wisemen in the Gospel of Matthew gave gifts to the new-born Messiah. If this is so, then we have everything backward. We should not be giving gifts to other people on Christmas day. Rather we should be giving gifts to the Messiah. What kind of gift could a person give to the one that we believe is very God incarnate. he needs nothing physical.

This is where it gets a bit tricky. Christians will often say something like "Give Him your heart." What does that mean? I believe that it is an ongiong quality in your life that first draws you closer to Jesus, and then brings you closer to your fellow man. You become closer to your God by pleading with him on behalf of others. Then you become closer to others by helping then to see who Jesus really is. Remember you plead with God and you "help" others. You do not "help" God by nagging at others. Both these are part of giving God your heart. It is a lifelong gift, that you must give Him everyday. How are you going to help somebody today?

There is a God and we do have to help others in saying Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays!

I think hes important because he is a humanoid man with a beard floating around the heavens keeping track of my good and bad deeds. He does this in my mind so that I will not fear death, which is more difficult to come to a realization with, so I live with the thought of a happy place in the sky.
