Would love to purchase another copy of children's book bought in 1980s. Yellow dust cover . Illustrated. Book about toys which had 'lain forgotten' - in loft - I think , because they had been discarded by their owners who had grown out of them. Toys 'came alive' and went out. Wonderful book. Title of book needed please. It was probably about A4 size 'landscape' format.

I think that could be a struggle to trace as it's such a well-worn theme in children's picture books. There must be a few thousand books about abandoned toys that come to life. Knowing it was landscape format might narrow things a little; all the ones I was going to suggest are portrait format ... but it won't help in "searches".

I suggest you do a search at Amazon under picturebooks for around 3 - 6 year-olds typing in just the word "Toys" which is almost certain to be in the title ... then just wade your way through page after page of search results until you see something familiar.

Could it be the "old bear" series of books by Jane Hissey? I had some of these when I was little (in the 80's) I also think there was seris on CBBC. I think they were smaller paperback picture books (age 4-6ish?) but I had an anthology as well so I guess they were also published in larger volumes.

In one story (the first I think) "Old Bear: When one of the toys remember Old Bear, packed away in the loft, the toys form a rescue team to try and get him back" Then there are other stories where they have adventures in the playroom, outside, etc.

There is a collection on sale at Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Old-Bear-Collection-Jane-Hissey/dp/0091767199/sr=8-1/qid=1165359737/ref=pd_ka_1/203-6920588-4035133?ie=UTF8&s=books
and also a couple on ebay. (search Jane hissey)

If it was for older children then Enid Blyton wrote a number of stories on this theme including the "Amelia Jane" series which is about a naughty doll, but I dont remember any attics.

Hope this helps.

Are you talking about Toy Story?

I remember a cartoon where the old boy, Mr Ben would change into a costume and have fantastic adventures every time. Apart from that, can't help.

Could it be the 'Velveteen Rabbit' by Margery Williams?

Yellow dust cover . Illustrated. The rabbit 'came alive' ?

I don't know if that's it but this one made my cry! (Aaw!)

Good luck in your search and I hope that helps!
