Wow. No such thing as coincidences I guess. Don't know quite sure how I got on UK yahoo answers. Anyway, first off: no good or bad in astrology. We all choose the the exact moment we come into this world. Doesn't matter even, if it's by C-section, we still chose that moment. Some choose not to come into this world. Now, to respond to your question. If you have 6 retrogrades, which is Rx, that tells me you had to have been born - last I remember that many was May or June of 1982. Now, depending on what month, or day, that would mean you had either Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto Rx, or Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto Rx.
These planets eventually turn direct by progression in your chart, they are not going to stay Rx, as a general rule. And the year in which they turn direct by progression marks a very important year in your life. Let me liken a Rx planet to a light switch. You go in a room, flick the switch, the light is bright. But say somebody installs a dimmer switch. Now you hit the switch, the light comes on, but it's not fully bright: the energy is still there, it's just not flowing thru fully. Until something happens, until you crank that dimmer switch on full. That's what happens by progression. That Rx planet goes direct and you finally feel its full energy. Maybe -because these are very powerful planets, the outer ones- you were not, up until that point really ready to handle the energy, and so it was subdued. Another interesting tidbit is that people who have many Rx planets, are thought to be "old souls," and have been here many times before. And you have lots of old business to finish up. And because the nodal axis in 1982 was in Cancer/Capricorn and it squares Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, it speaks of old family obligations, family issues, home issues, which you feel are restraining you, keeping you from doing what you want to do. And makes me curious as to whether maybe you have Libra or Capricorn rising. And your moon placement, ruler of Cancer, would give further details. And you would look to the ruler and aspects of the ascendant as well to see exactly what is holding you back, or what you FEEL is holding you back. And I don't know if I've got room to go into all of them, but let me give you a few examples. Because the planets just aren't us; they're other people as well. ie, Mercury doesn't just represent your thought processes, the kind of car you drive, the kind of mail you get, how you speak, it also speaks of your siblings if you have any, or aunts and uncles, the kind of neighbors you have, what kind of documents you will have to deal with in your life, yada, yada yada.
Let say Venus is Rx in the natal chart. This also affects your social life, love life, a female relative, whether it's sister or in-law, or maybe a sensitive brother or brother-in-law, all depends what sign and house it's in, and the aspects. But in general, you need to be careful what kind of friends you choose; you may associate with the wrong types of people who will steer you down the wrong path or take advantage of you. You may feel unloved, unwanted. Maybe you have a wicked case of acne, or you feel you're too fat, whatever. Someone in your family might not approve of your choice of friends, dates. Or any of the above may have a mental, emotional, or physical problem, or you are burdened with responsibility and support for any of the above.
Now, by progression, Venus turns direct. You start to feel better about yourself. You go and the doctor gives you something and your acne clears up, or you lose 30 pounds, or whatever. You don't feel so unloved and unwanted anymore because you now learn to enjoy the company of others without trying to turn every relationship into a love affair, or struggle to earn the love of other people, or you start to dress differently and people start to notice the inner and outer changes in you because you are finally starting to feel lbetter about yourself, physically, mentally, emotionally. Bear in mind, this also affects others. For example, if you have a sister, she might get married that same year.
Saturn Rx in the natal is a person with a built-in inferiority complex. Why does my life have to be so hard? Why do I have to have so many responsibilities when I'm so young? I'm sure my parents love me, but why can't they express it to me? I want to do things, rise above the environment I'm in. I want success, self-esteem, and recognition. And I don't feel I get it from my parents. So I want to show them! Seems like others get recognition for far less effort. Saturn Rx may also indicate a seriously ill parent or absent parent, a sorrow connected with them. When it turns direct, this is an ambitious person, determined to rise above that early restrictive environment, gain success and recognition and self-esteem.
The natal house and sign position of the Rx planet and its aspects is important in determining how the Rx factor affects your life. But the new progressed house position of that Rx planet indicates the circumstances at various stages of life.
If you mean by left side of your chart the ascendant side, then bear in mind, a propensity of planets on the left side of a chart says you control your own destiny. A majority of planets on the right side, or descendant means other people have a major impact, circumstances in your life are highly influenced by others. Then you need to look, are they (the planets) above the horizon, or below the horizon.
If I'm not out of room I would like to clarify for Tara, when planets are Rx, it simply means "something is not yet quite ready. I am giving you a chance, time to make it right." A planet will go back and forth; retrograde, stationary, direct. Let's say for example you and your husband, whatever, are looking to buy a house. Mercury then goes retrograde. You know something is gonna get screwed up, because Mercury rules property and documents to do with such. The mortgage papers get screwed up, whatever, and you have to do something all over again to straighten it out. It is also a warning to thoroughly check out the deed and the property. Or, for example, if it's in Pisces, make sure you check the house out a a day when it's pouring because maybe the roof leaks. Or maybe the septic tank is screwed up, or there's something wrong with the plumbing, or the furnace that they're not telling you about. All is not as it seems when Mercury is retrograde in Pisces. Scorpio, maybe there's a pedophile in the neighborhood that you don't about as yet, or there's an old lien on the property. In Sag, there's some legal problem with that property that you need to check out. Rx planets say, Okay, I'm going to give you 3 chances to get things right, get things together because things are not ready just yet. Like Venus, you meet a guy, you're really not even aware of, or remember, because Venus is Rx- and I'm talking transits now - wow, it's late. Okay, another night, another chapter.

Had this all typed up once, and system crashed... so here goes again! ;)
When a planet goes retrograde, it appears to be moving backwards, at least from our perspective on Earth. And though it's obviously not really going backwards, this visual phenomenon has some definite effects on us.
When retrograde, the normal expression of the planet is delayed or out of sync with the normal progression of events. Consequently, anything initiated or planned during a retrograde period will often be delayed or is more difficult to get off the ground than usual.
Check to see WHICH planets in your chart are retro, then apply the 'backward, delayed, or difficult' principle to them...
For example, if Venus is retro: Venus affects how we love, romantic relationships, etc. So a retro Venus makes your approach to love a little backward, or maybe you have a hard time connecting romantically, or your timing is off in love.
Not always a bad thing, but makes things challenging (which strengthens character!).
Hope this helps!
