You have several options. One would be to enroll in an automotive repair school. Read all of the books and magazines about autos or do online research. I started learning by taking apart lawn mower engines and putting them back together. Shop classes in school helped too. Visiting an auto mechanics shop would help too.

Definitly get a subscription to Hot Rod magizene, buy a bunch of old ones then get an old rust beater V-8 and fix it
