Can Superman Breathe In Space

Superman needs to breathe, so he cannot survive indefinitely in a vacuum. He can hold his breath for at least 90 minutes [!] (even while exerting himself) so it would take a very long time to drown him.

The movie versions of Superman are a little different. They seem to has a bit of an increase in power but probably still have limits to how long they can last in space. In any case, during Superman: The Movie, Kal-El reverses the Earth's rotation (and time!) in far less than an hour and a half....
(Plus remember "Movie Physics" allowed Zod and his companions to audibly speak on the moon, where there is also no air!)

Details weren't given, but pre-1986 Superman (upon whom all the Superman movies have been based) could survive in space (basically he didn't need oxygen, or food for that matter). We don't know that the movie Superman loses his powers under a red sun, but he did come back to earth in that crystal-like spacecraft, so maybe he traveled there an back in that (having gotten the spacecraft from the Fortress.

The pre-Crisis Superman could sirvive indefinitely without oxygen. He could take a deep super breath and hold it so he could being oxygen down to people trapped underwater because his body did not take any oxygen out of his breath.

After Crisis, Superman could hold his breath for hours, and used it more efficiently, too, so that he could fly to the moon and back on one deep breath. But for deep space exploration, he had to use device invented by Professor Hamilton.

I don't know if he's gradually beeen getting powered back up to his ridiculous old levels again lately, or not.

Pre-Crisis (1985) Superman could. All of them Earth 1, 2 3 X Etc
Post Crisis, when he was de-powered somewhat, he can still survive in space for prolonged periods of time, but for only as long as he can hold his breath.

In Superman Returns he has been in deep space for a long time so, yes, he can hold hid breath indefinitely. Why don't people remember this?

Superman can survive in space. In one of the movies when Lois died he went into space and flew in the opposite direction that Earth was rotating. He turned back time so she wouldn't die.

yes. I guess in one of the Superman movie where he fought a supervillain with fire-sun sort of power. You can see him go to space without the space suit :)

No way to the first answer. Don't you remember that thing that was on fire in the beggining? well anyway that's a spaceship that he used to get there and back to Eath.
