Fender and Gibson are the best.
Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster
Gibson Les Paul or a Flying "V"
Also a good brand is Paul Reed Smith.

Forget the brand and choose a guitar that feels good to you. Way too many players limit themselves to certain brands or models and lose the desire to go down their own road.

You really want a guitar that fits you in the way it feels and sounds. I would go to a guitar store and see which ones fit your budget. From that group, I would narrow it down to which sounds more like how you want your guitar to sound since they all have different crispness and tonal qualities. Mostly, have fun! My son likes the Guitar Center. The local one has sales people that really take their time listening to my son to help him figure out what guitar he wants, amps, etc.

Fender and Gibson are the best, but i prefer gibson's les paul jr's.
for fender, get the fat stratocaster.
for gibson get the black beauty or if thats too expensive, the les paul junior.
