What a male and female deer are called depends on the species of deer, and where you live. Male Red and Sika deer are called stags, and females hinds - other males (Fallow, Roe..) are called bucks, females are does. 'Harts' only exist in England !

A 'Hind' is a female deer (and a female 'rabbit' too), so-called after about the 4th year of life.
'Stag' is the male version of it the deer.

The 'MALE' of hind could be 'BUCK' or 'STAG', as in male turkey (See other posting).
'Hounds' are called 'hinds' by posh people!!
