A dead bee stung my son on the finger. I killed it and couldn't find it. Then he found it a little while later and tried to pick it up I guess he touched the stinger, but it left a bump.

Yes I have. I was going out to check my mail and I was barefooted. I stepped on a bee and got stung in the arch of my foot. Or maybe I killed it when I stepped on it???? Now I will be up all night wondering about this.

not a bee but a wasp-I was just walking through my yard and stepped on one- it was already partially decayed, so I knew the wasp was dead.
The trigger mechanism in the stinger- operates whether the bee is alive or not.
