I have a debt I owe from a while back. A collection agency has contacted me and wants me to deal with them, including paying them as opposed to paying the original creditor. I contacted them, and they want me to pay a certain amount a month, plus interest. Do I have to deal with them or can I tell them to go to hell and only deal with the guy I owe? I would like to have an idea about what to do before I go into court.

Collection agency are a pain you do not have to deal with them but if you want them to go away you must send them a cease and desist letter and this letter must be certified.Read this book STOP IT by Bud Hibbs A CONSUMER'S GUIDE TO EFFECTIVELY STOPPING COLLECTION AGENCY HARASSMENT.

Sometimes. Once the collection agency gets the account you might have to deal only with them. But, sometimes if you call the original creditor and tell them that they sent you to a collection agency but would like to PAY IN FULL to them (original creditor) you might be able to. There is no reason to go to court for any of this. Collection agencies have the right to contact you. You have rights too and each state is different, as far as these rights are concerned. Good luck.
