It always seems like I'm some sort of character. I know who I am but I dont like to label myself as one kind of person. So how do I know when I'm being myself and when I'm not, how do just naturally start acting like it?

Most human beings are flexible. Ex.:
When Jan goes to work she dresses very conservatively and is slightly reserved. She will enjoy the occasional conversation over lunch but mostly keeps to herself, she likes to keep things professional. When she arrives home she sees she has a message on her voice-mail and discovers it is from her best-friend, Maria. Maria was wondering if Jan would meet her at the local club for a few drinks. Jan immediately tosses off her work attire and throws on a pair of low rider jeans and a midriff top, exposing a considerable amount more than she does at work. When she meets up with Maria she immediately blends in with the crowd; dancing, singing, drinking, and in general being very sociable. After she arrives home she grabs a shower, tosses on a pair of comfy old sweats, tosses on an old, mellow flic, and munches on some popcorn while sipping a soda.
Which is the real her? Which is the character?
Every aspect of the lives we live need us to develop a character for the scene we are acting and not a one has to even coincide with the other.

Kudos to Jenny T for a great example of "characters". Bravo.
Sometimes, we act "in character" to protect ourselves from being hurt in new, or uncomfortable situations. I am pretty confident that you are aware when you're being yourself as opposed to when you're not. Who, or what is telling you to put on one "label" or another? Be comfortable within yourself and you'll attract the same.

Being yourself is the same personality at all times. You can be yourself by not acting or pretending to be someone else, otherwise you are yourself.

The trick is to like yourself, to quickly forgive yourself when you make a mistake, to understand and accept you're not perfect, to laugh at yourself, and to be open to criticism.
