I am thinking about getting the medication bactrim to treat my UTI
and i was wondering if anyone ever had an allergic reaction because this is my first time getting an UTI and i`m really nervous about having an allergic reaction.

Bactrim is a sulfa and I do not think it is unusual to be allergic to sulfa. I know that I am. But I think you will be fine. The only way to find out if you are allergic is to try it--if you have never had the drug before. Good luck.

Yes, you can have an allergic reaction to Bactrim, but most people don't. If you do, you will notice it immediately: red rash or trouble breathing. If you take Bactrim with food, and up your water intake you should get over this UTI fast! I'd rather take the chance on the Bactrim than take a chance with a UTI anyday! You need this antibiotic to destroy the bacteria in your urinary track before it goes to your kidneys! I would suggest that you eat yogurt to prevent any yeast infections, secondary to taking an antibiotic. Take it all; don't stop once you start. You can also have diarrhea from an antibiotic, but you can deal with that with over the counter meds. Get rid of the UTI...it's very important. you normally don't have an allergic reaction the first time you take a medicine i am currently attending college and i am taking my pharmacology class my teacher told us normally the first time you come in contact with something you don't have an allergic reaction he said your body has to have time to build antibodies against the medicine first and normally the second time is when you have an allergic reaction. but that doesn't mean you will have an allergic reaction if you notice a rash or any symptoms of an allergic reaction then call your doctor also when you get the prescription filled read the pamphlet that the pharmacy sends with it follow all your doctors instructions and the instructions on the medicine bottle. your doctor wouldn't give you something that would make you sick the medicine is to help you take all the medicine until it is gone or your until you doctor tells you to stop good luck

you may be sensitive to the drug Its not unheard of people to have reactions to it but you have to take a med once to develop an allergy in the first place Bactrim is a pretty effective drug
