also im maily wanting this cpu to play counter striek source, right now i get about 20-50 fps depending on what is on screen, will that P4 help with fps, cuz CS:S is a highly cpu dependant game

Yes, the Pentium 4 is better than the Celeron. Celerons aren't built for games like the Pentium 4 is. I'm using a Pentium 4 now and it's much better than the computer with a Celeron I use at school.

There are 478 pin P4 processors. Here is a link that goes into detail about what motherboards support the P4. There is a cache requirement.

The p4 is eons better than the celeron. However, your bus speed needs to be fast too. If it is not, then upgrade the MB. I would suggest that anyway. If the present mb came with a celeron, chances are it is not the optimum mb for the P4.

your motherboard you mentioned is a socket 478 and the P4 cpu you posted a link to is a socket 478...yes, the cpu will work, the only trouble you could run into is your motherboard bios doesn’t support that particular revision of the P4 in which case you may need to bios flash your motherboard but this is unlikely. the celeron could be causing a bottleneck, so upgrading your cpu should produce better performance with that video card.

Yes, P4s are better than Celerons - but I have no idea if it'll fit in the motherboard you've got now. It should but you know how that goes. If you get 20-50 FPS, that's pretty good.

Your processor aint your counter strike prob buddy! Its your connection speed givin you the biggest prob! You may also have too much crap running on your PC in the background suckin up your ram! CS doesnt require much of a processor to run! Invest in ram, not a processor!~Your full of it too buddy! I got a little news for ya! I have been playin steam games for 15 years! You can run couterstrike source easily on a 1 ghz processor if you know what you are doin! CSS has been out for the last 7 years at least! Like I said! Turn off some of that BS you got runnin in the background!

You should first find out what brand/type of motherboard you are using and look at it's specifications. Some motherboards will only support upto a certain speed CPU...You want to be sure yours will not only physically fit the new cpu but will support it too.

yes it would be better because the P4 has double the FSB speed and double the L2 cache
