When I was pregnant with my son years back it was........paper. Strange I know. I would get rice paper rather then eating looseleaf, a much better choice. So what was your craving or the strangest craving you ever heard of?

Before I pick best answer, I want to say that I don't understand how someone could thumb down any of these answers. It's not an opinion, it's what you ladies had as cravings.

With that said, there were some good foods there and some that I have to admit, YUCK!! But def not as strange or yucky as mine!! LoL!!

Craving non-nutritious things like paper, soil, clay cig butts etc is an affliction called pica. Mine was for ice, which is in the same category. I talked to my doctor about it and it can be a sign of low iron but more likely caused by hormones. She did a spell in Africa and she said that one of the signs of being pregnant was craving soil so it also can be a cultural thing.

I was eating a bag of ice a week. If I went to a drive through, I'd get an extra cup of ice. I was quite an obsession for me. My doc said that so long as I wasn't replacing healthy food for ice (and getting malnourished) it was OK. Since I had my baby, I don't think I've eaten a single cube.

You know they say when you are craving things like paper, dirt, it is because you are lacking something in your diet and whatever you are craving has that in it. My sister actually craved the smell of gasoline and comet cleaner. I guess i just got lucky because all i craved was cheese curls with onion dip.

Sweets...I'm not big on sweets normally but when pregnant I want them all the time. It's horrible. I always try to eat something else to get rid of the craving.

As strange as it sounds, my only 'craving' was KFC chicken, usually the twister... it wasnt every day, or even every week, but thankfully, there is a KFC just 2 mins walk from my flat, so when i got the urge, i didnt have to wait long! Apart from that though, absolutely nothing...
