I don't have too much money to spend. Also, he has a really nice electric guitar (fender stratocaster), so I don't want to get him something cheap in comparison. Please help!

If he's a Fender fan, a P bass or a Jazz bass would be a better choice. If you stay away from the American built basses, you should be able to find a good deal. Visit Musicians Friend as was mentioned above.

You could go with the Squier, but a Washburn bass would be a better choice. It may be a little bit more expensive, but its for a good reason, they are a better quality as far as sound goes. Try going to this website www.musiciansfriend.com they usually run REALLY good deals around Christmas time. Hope it helped.
