Your beef with Medicaid is that people would always be coming to your house? First off that isn't true but hey check this out:

The phrase "beggars can't be chosers" comes to mind, to be honest.

I'd contact a social worker (such as planned parenthood, or your local clinic) and see exactly what your options are first of all. And then, take whatever you can get and be grateful for it. Please do not take the selfish route of...*ahem*...not wanting "your privacy invaded." because here's a bit of advise for ya...being pregnant and all, you're going to be subjected to many invasive procedures and the least of which is who is coming over to your house.

So please, for the sake of yourself...and especially for the sake of your baby who doesn't have a choice in the matter..take advantage of whatever programs you can, and don't be silly about the details.

And take this in the intent it was written. By no means do I expect to get a "best answer" pick because I'm not telling you what you want to hear, but what you NEED to hear. But what I've said is 100% spot on, and not intented to harass or insult you. So please take it in the spirit it was intended, and good luck with your pregnancy.

I would suggest medicaid. I don't know about people showing up at your house, but wouldn't you rather have that than a ton of bills. The average cost of a normal delivery is $7,000-10,000. That is not including prenatal care, doctor's cost of deliver, or the anesthesiologist, if you what an epidural. If you can not afford to have the baby on your own you need to find out what is available to you in your state and the best place to start is medicaid, if you don't qualify there they will give you information on what is available to you.

I had a similar situation. See I had insurance, and I of course asked them about maternity coverage. They said that I would only have to pay for maternity coverage while I was actually pregnant. So I finally got pregnant, then I called and informed them that I was pregnant and they told me that they couldn't cover me because I was considered 'pre-existing'. Apparently I had to pay for the Maternity coverage a little bit before I got pregnant. Which they neglected to tell me. Anyway (sorry so long) I had no choice but to apply for medicaid, if you really need it use it if you can. Unfortunately people who don't need it abuse it. But don't be ashamed by it, almost everyone has been in some kind of financial difficulty. It is there to help you.
Congratulations and Good Luck.

Congratulations!! I also just found out I'm about a month along.

There's a company out there that helps people who do not have and need affordable health benefits. It includes regular office visits, any specialists and even pre-existing conditions and pregnancy. It basically includes everything you need help paying for. Their medical plan includes dental, vision, prescription and chiropractic benefits as well. There's no high premiums, deductibles, co-pays, waiting periods, claims forms or anything like that at all. They can save you up to 80% on your out of pocket expenses for a very small fee every month. It could end up saving you a lot of $$ over traditional insurance. Try this website and you can check out the specifics and providers in your area. http://www.everyonebenefits.com/40424269... If your provider isn't on there, he can be added. They are a wonderful company and are members of the BBB. I have benefits through them as well. Hope you find what you need. Please email me if you have any questions, and I'd be happy to help you if I can. Best of luck.

I never had insurance with all three of my pregnancies either,I live in Florida and we have a special medicaid program out here ,thats only for pregnate women. They pay for everything! And they don't come out to your house, that part is up to you ,if you want or don't want the home check ins.
Maybe where you live they might have SOMETHING similar to that?
Good luck!

I felt the same way u did. I just changed jobs and was working through a temp agency when i found out i was pregnant. I dont know where u live, but i live in manhattan. medicaid doesnt require house visits here or multiple visits to their offices. you should be able to get info from your local hospital or women's clinic. and i am also glad to say that medicaid offers great care and doctors. but like i said, thats here in NYC. you should also be able to go to your state's government website and get info. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Medicaid (it's called MediCal in California) is based on your income and will help with prenatal care, delivery and hospital stay. Don't be afraid to ask for help, it's there for a reason--to help those in need. I went on it between insurances to get my children's well child check-ups and shots and it was hard to accept help. But, we did it for as long as we needed and now we have insurance coverage. The most important thing is to get good prenatal care to insure a safe delivery and a healthy child!
